Most profiles like Natural, Portrait and CineD-V are more than enough for most users. V-log is only needed if you want to make deep color grading or if you want the best DR. But since V-log base ISO is higher, you must deal with more noise (and no it is not only because V-log has less NR with recent Panasonic cameras). So you can overexpose V-log by 2 stops (on G9II/GH7) or 2,5 stops (S5II) to get noise level close to the other profiles, but you need more light to do this, this means that if in low light you want the lowest noise at the lowest ISO, rec 709 profiles are better. However, even if it doesn't matter to old cameras like the GH5, G9, S5, S1 or S1H, recent Panasonic cameras like the S5II, S5II and S9 have nicer details in V-log than in rec 709 profiles. By exemple if you don't use V-log on the S5II in 4K, you will see much more edge sharpening and smoothed out details. This is why I only use V-log on the S5II overexposed to 2,5 stops, but if I want the best details, image quality and the lowest noise at low ISO (ISO 100), I use my S5 and S1 with Rec 709 profiles.

Hi Josh, To Match my BM cameras and GH5,5s S5 I use cinematch in HDR pipeline with CST and DaVinci Wide Gamut and Intermediate as Cinematch allows you a HDR pipeline since January and nobody is talking about that. You can get amazing footage with this pipeline in resolve n and I use if needed Filmconvert after it. I know you are a FCP user but I could really see a difference even in SDR using the new HDR pipeline recommended by cinematch. Don’t know if it exists for FCP but maybe

This was an awesome comparison. I use Phantom LUTs and was curious how it would stack up to the Arri log format, since like you said, the Phantom LUTs are built to emulate Arri log. This is exactly what I was hoping to see. Very happy with the Phantom LUTs. Thank you for this Josh!

More pure skin tone tests would have been sensible since this is where logC shines. And this is more than a CST or a lut, Panasonic has been very adamant on this matter, Arri mapped the GH7 sensor at a matrix level when producing this.

Thank you for this video. Very useful. It confirms to me that this is just marketing. For me it's definitely not worth spending that $200. They should have included it for free in the GH7 and maybe included it for a fee in the GH6, G9II (or even the GH5II and GH5s).

Nice video. Personally think V log isn't needed either unless your wanting to spend time color grading every bit of footgae. I have often use the natural color profile on all the lumix cameras I have own. And never had any feedback saying it looks bad. Never had a client asking if footage will be shot in V-log. I do think log profiles have been pushed more by creator's who want to sell Lut packs or work for bands that sponser their videos by giving them free luts so they can they sell it to thier subscribers. The voice in my head says ' you shoot Vlog then drop a rec709 on it then add a lut. To make it look like a profile that is already in the camera so what's the point of shooting in it in the first place. ' 😅😅 I call it the voice of logic . Not slateing anyone who shoots in V log just don't think it's something needed as much as creator's say it is.

You also have CineMatch from Film Convert that costs $119. As I'm using a mix of Lumix and Blackmagic cameras it's been really helpful, I almost always end up converting both to Arri Log.

Nice video! It looks like your effects might be in the wrong order. In Final Cut, effects are applied from top to bottom. You can easily verify this by applying the Colorize and Black and White effects. If Colorize is on top and Black and White is below it, the image will remain black and white since the Black and White effect is applied after Colorize, and vice versa.

Moral of the Story: Don't pay $200 for a single LUT

Still standing still with my PENTAX Edit: I mean, still when I bought their KP camera, they are still new. The camera was from 2017, and what display from the 2000s, do you want unreliable touchscreen? And I think this is just from pure non understanding, if you don't like that they are still making DSLRs and calling them stupid for that, is just something else, they have mirror less mode, but why use more battery, just use your own god damn eyes.

If youre doing a wedding photography, do you think 24-105 works well? My big worry is indoor photography... but id like a longer reach also and a wide angle... but it seems i need to compramise and i feel all is very important and im stuck lolz i also want to do all the other photostyles.. portrait, product and vlogging. Thanks for your job, your channel has been huge inspiration and the source of information regarding Lumix cameras. What is your opinion regarding quality of Lumix S line lenses? I've got myself 5iix not so long ago, and still wondering how to expand my lens set. However, there's many reports regarding poor QA for Lumix S series, specifically about glue separation on the inner lens element. It made me worried, and after examining my 50mm 1.8 I've indeed found quite large circle around the glass somewhere inside the lens, which ought to be the thing everyone is talking about, glue separation which can lead to bubbles inside the lens and totally destroy it. On top, my 20-60 has some visible moisture, oily spots behind the front element. Which makes me think if I should keep this system at all. It's a shame, because both the camera and the image quality of the lenses are amazing. Thank you.

Interesting and a nice set up.. Questions:. With the mattebox the PDMovie Smart Lidar is blocked right? You said you do manual focus with the wheel.. so I guess losing out the auto fucus is a consideration. I also noticed the battery is so close to the S1's screen that access to it for viewing or menu control on it would be obstructed? I run with the S1H.. but as I shoot with longer cine zoom lenses and have a swing away mattebox, Zacuto Kameleon Pro EVF, 7" Blackmagic Video Assist 12g (swapped to 5" Fotga 2500nit for handheld work) and Video TX (I also have 2 Tilta Nano motors, one for the focus with their wheel NOT RECOMMENDED AS THE LCD SCREEN IS TINY AND IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE IN DAYLIGHT SO WILL GET THE NANO 2..and the 2nd running zoom with a Zoom demand) ..all attached.. It is somewhat bigger.. ( most of my work is stand-up International TV LIVEs or sit down Doc IVs..) .. It is somewhat of a beast TBH.. so Easyrig comes in for handheld work.. Manual or auto ?

Leica used to have great color science. I’d argue the M10 is one of the best JPEG cameras of all time along with the M9. But new cameras are all so dang good the only reason to get a Leica is for the look and feel of the camera itself. Bottom line is whatever gets you out shooting is the camera to have. I’ll stick to my sigma FP L for digital and my Leica M7 for film.

Great color science comes when shooting skintones in mixed lighting, bulbs & daylights or neon lights with daylight etc. There you can see the Hue control/quality that Leica has over other brands. And that comes from an ex Leica SL owner who just ordered a Lumix S5iiX to test it out :)

In Italy, as in other eurozone countries, it is possible to purchase this small lens for 99 euros together with the S9. This is the same price at which you can buy a similar pancake lens like the 7artisans 35mm 5.6. So I don't think it's that scandalous. From my tests, this cap lens from Lumix is also quite sharp and the results are more than satisfactory (as well as fun)

I really thing one of Sigma i Series are better. The 35m or 45mm.

totally agree with you ...seeing a lot of reviews going that way of only reviewing by the specs, not even having tested it themselves, just talking specs and making other reviews opinions their own. What's the point of 'reviewing' this way? This lens is very nice for what it is meant for.

I wouldn't hate this lens if it was priced accordingly, which is less than $50. But it costs $200. Let's just compare it to Canon 28mm f/2.8 which costs $300: Canon is 3 (I repeat, THREE) stops brighter, has variable aperture, has auto focus, has filter thread, has customizable ring, has MF/AF button and better construction. Panasonic 26mm pancake is terrible for $200.

It seems that the most common theme in the comments is the price tag. So, how much do YOU think this lens should cost?

$200 seems steep when the 7artisans 35mm f 5.6 is available for $100 and has a built in lens cap. Or just a little thicker you can get a 50mm f2 from TTArtisans for only $70. So I can see that it might be interesting, but the price needs to come way down.

Why would I waste my precious time on a lens like this when I have fantastic Sigma 17mm and 45mm lenses? Life is short. I can use my super nice Sigma lenses in MF no need to spend 250 extra.

I think this lens can be quite fun but I have to say what everyone is saying. It's too expensive. For like 99€ I would consider it, but 240€. For that prize it should be a F2.8 (or F4) with AF.

from my personal experience that wobble effect came from an in body stabilization mode happened when i was switching modes on my 50mm 1.8 so i had to find the right setting that made it stop the wobble effect

I could get behind this lens except for the lack of filter threads. A lens like this screams to have some sort of diffusion filter added (or built in with toggle switch?) like a pro-mist or glimmer glass. I think it's correct that this was made for people wanting that manual disposable camera feel, so why not give the photos a little extra personality and film-like appearance?

I love m43 because everything is so much smaller.

I am thinking between S5IIx and GH7 (S5II is not an option). Im photos first but wanna make more videos. I think, I'll be fine with the 50mm and the 20-60mm kit lenses for a while, if I choose S5IIX. Why I still hesitate: I'm wandering if the full frame really is so much bigger than the the mft (not the body in this case but lenses. I am wandering if size would make me leave the camera at go home. In this case, I know both bodies are big, but don't want to go for the S9. Thank you for any advice

I think it'll be a fun photo lens but as a video dude mainly I just can't see myself picking it up brand new. I'll likely wait for a good deal on it from the used market then give it a try because it does pair nicely with the tiny body of the S9 and plus sometimes just a bit of for fun photography or street photography is a nice change of pace :)
